Job Purpose

The Copy Editor is responsible for minor editing, proofreading, sourcing, and fact-checking creative, effective and compliant copy for different types of communication and marketing materials. The Copy Editor revises copy to incorporate feedback from subject matter experts around the narrative of our products and/or financial concepts and performs quality control and proofreading duties. This role also actively monitors project schedules and upholds deadlines.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Edits, proofreads, and fact checks all copy to ensure accuracy of information and writing mechanics; updates, edits, and applies appropriate financial disclosure to materials.

  • Utilizes content management system(s), adhering to direction contained in disclosure database guide and style guide(s).

  • Supplies and verifies sources and determines correct legal disclosure(s) based on content of the material.

  • Assists in the update of style guides and disclosure database guide(s).

  • Develops a deep understanding and knowledge of Jackson's financial products/concepts and flags inconsistent or confusing information.

  • Exhibits flexibility and professionalism while effectively managing multiple projects, quick turnaround times, and client feedback/revisions.

  • Seeks out answers and solves problems.

  • Remains abreast of industry trends and competitor marketing materials.

  • Strong writing, editorial, and grammar skills.

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and focused on accuracy.

  • Strong presentation, communication, and research skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and to liaise effectively with clients across the enterprise.

  • Ability to follow-up, multi-task and work effectively and successfully on simultaneous projects with tight and changing priorities, scope, and timelines/deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and professionalism.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Ability to develop knowledge of Jackson’s products.

  • Ability to develop knowledge of the financial services industry and products.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, English or Journalism, and/or equivalent experience required.

3-5 years of Copy Editing/Proofreading experience required.

Financial Services copywriting experience required.

Digital writing experience preferred.
