Job Purpose

The JET Manager is responsible for all phases of Jackson's Development Lifecycle, including concept, inception, iteration (including requirements planning, development, testing, feedback incorporation), release, maintenance, and retirement. The manager is also responsible for employee development activities including establishing and monitoring goals and providing employee performance management. The Manager has a thorough knowledge of and demonstrates the Agile Values and Principles by offering support and removing roadblocks for their team members. The Manager must practice and demonstrate servant leadership by partnering across the organization to enable effective value delivery.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supports and advocates for the development and maintenance of architectural standards, policies, processes, and procedures related to job duties/responsibilities, ensures adoption and contributes to modernization efforts.

  • Facilitates discussions required to solve problems supporting a culture of continuous learning.

  • Performs onboarding orientation activities to Jackson and the IT department.

  • Monitors industry patterns and technologies to influence product and program direction setting.

  • Actively seeks and participates in personal and team development opportunities and maintains knowledge in this domain.

  • Monitors industry trends and developments to influence system design and customer service.

  • Actively engages with peers and leaders in assigned domains, applying expertise to improve process and upskill associates within JET.

  • Leads and develops best practices aligned to industry standards and applicable Body of Knowledge.

  • Advocates and coaches on software testing best practices and influences architecture and design decisions.

  • Possesses a strong technical capability that enables coaching and performance management of technical associates.

  • Provides management insight into the needs and outcomes leadership hopes to achieve; regularly utilizing data provided to drive decision making in support of desired outcomes.

  • Acts as a point of escalation in partnership with architecture to remove impediments; empowers team and management to provide solutions as appropriate.

  • In collaboration with Architecture and team leadership, advises team around the prioritization of technical debt or enablers against new feature innovation and solution delivery.

  • Partners with Architecture and team leadership to ensure the team is aligned with Group Technology Policies and takes appropriate escalation steps if a risk and business problems are identified.

  • Embraces and creates a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and execution.

  • Monitors the health and engagement within the team; Partners with team leadership to provide the necessary coaching and guidance to improve team performance.

  • Effectively coaches team members to continue professional development and skill maturity.

  • Coaches, engages and partners with team leadership on necessary skill development to facilitate problem solving within the team.

  • Manages professional staff; responsible for personnel actions including hiring, individual performance and salary reviews, corrective action and terminations.

  • Identifies and creates learning opportunities within the development team through training, conferences, hands-on training, and mentorship.

  • Actively seeks, participates, and executes on personal and team development opportunities to meet departmental and organizational short and long-term goals.

  • Conducts succession planning efforts to develop current and future skill gaps within the team.

  • Recommends strategies based on industry trends to develop new ways to recruit and enhance current talent to support growing demand.

  • Creates and models a culture of continuous improvement and innovation that becomes embedded in day-to-day activities, coaching others on the team.

  • Knowledge of financial services or insurance industry operations.

  • Ability to learn and maintain a comprehensive understanding of Jackson’s business and technology.

  • Understanding of Jackson’s technology directions and alignment with strategic initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Microsoft Windows O/S and Office Suite.

  • Experience working with various operating systems, platforms, and environments.

  • Proven and diligent experience developing, teaching, and applying applicable technology practices.

  • Ability to identify, develop, interview, and recruit new talent in partnership with Human Resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.

  • 5+ years serving in a management/leadership role required.

  • 5+ years of IT experience preferred.

  • Financial services experience preferred.
